Possible Causes

Shorted induction coil, Shorted IGBT on power module, Internal board failure, Severe power surge damage

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: This is a high-voltage, high-current fault. Do not continue to reset and run the unit, as it may cause further damage. Disconnect power at the breaker before inspection.

  • Power reset: After turning off the breaker for 10 minutes, restore power and test briefly. If E5 returns immediately, discontinue use.
  • Check for visible damage: Remove the cooktop and bottom cover. Inspect the induction coils and power modules for burn marks, cracked components, or melted insulation.
  • Test other zones: If only one zone triggers E5, the fault is likely localized to that module or coil.

Due to the complexity of diagnosing IGBT and coil shorts, replacement of the affected induction power module (and coil if damaged) is recommended. This repair is best performed by a Thermador-authorized technician.
