Viking oven overshoots or undershoots set temperature; display may show F02 during or after a cooking cycle.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker before removing any panels or touching wiring.
Steps to diagnose and correct:
- Verify actual temperature: Place an accurate oven thermometer in the center of the oven. Run the oven at 350°F for at least 20–30 minutes and compare the displayed temperature to the thermometer reading.
- Check sensor mounting: Ensure the oven temperature sensor is firmly secured to the rear wall and not bent away from the cavity. Tighten mounting screws if loose.
- Test sensor resistance: With power off, remove the sensor and measure resistance at room temperature. Compare to Viking specifications (typically ~1080–1100 Ω at 70°F). If out of range, replace the sensor.
- Control calibration: Many Viking electronic controls allow temperature offset calibration via the front panel. Refer to the user manual to adjust the oven temperature offset (+/− up to 35°F). If F02 persists, the control may be faulty.
- Inspect ground/neutral: With the rear panel removed, verify that the neutral and ground connections at the terminal block are tight and free of corrosion. Loose connections can cause erratic temperature readings.
When to call a technician: If replacing the sensor and performing calibration does not resolve the F02 error, the EOC likely needs replacement, which is best handled by a professional.
