Viking oven shuts off unexpectedly and displays F03; may occur during preheat or high-temperature baking.
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker and allow the oven to cool completely before inspection.
Steps to check and correct:
- Inspect oven vents: Ensure that the vent slots at the back of the cooktop or above the oven door are not blocked by foil, pans, or debris. Clear any obstructions.
- Check cooling fan operation: During a bake cycle, the internal cooling fan should run (you may hear it behind the control panel). If it does not run, the fan motor or fan thermostat may be faulty. With power off, access the fan from the rear or top and check for obstructions or seized blades.
- Test high-limit thermostat: Locate the high-limit thermostat or thermal cutoff (usually mounted on the rear of the oven cavity or near the top). With power off, test for continuity using a multimeter. If open and not resettable, replace it.
- Control relay check: If the oven overheats rapidly or continues heating after being turned off, a stuck relay on the EOC may be the cause. In this case, the control board should be replaced.
- Reset power: After correcting airflow or replacing faulty components, restore power and test a low-temperature bake cycle to confirm normal operation.
When to call a technician: If you suspect a stuck relay or cannot access the internal fan or high-limit thermostat safely, contact a professional Viking technician.
