Possible Causes

Open broil element, Loose or burned broil element wiring, Failed broil relay on control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker and allow the oven to cool.

  • Inspect broil element: Locate the broil element at the top of the oven cavity. Look for visible breaks, sagging, or burn marks.
  • Check wiring: Remove the rear panel to access broil element terminals. Inspect for heat damage or loose connectors. Repair or replace damaged terminals.
  • Test continuity: Disconnect one wire from the broil element and measure resistance. Expect 10–30 Ω. Replace the element if open.
  • Control board diagnosis: If the element and wiring are good, the broil relay on the control board may not be energizing. This typically requires replacing the electronic oven control.
  • Reassemble and test: Restore power and test broil. If E04 returns, contact a Wolf-authorized technician.
