Possible Causes
Clogged burner ports, Wet or contaminated spark igniter, Failed spark module, Loose igniter wire at electrode or module
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off all burner knobs. If you smell gas, shut off the gas supply, ventilate the area, and do not use electrical switches or open flames.
- Check for clicking: Turn the affected burner knob to ignite. If there is no clicking, the spark system is not firing. If there is clicking but no flame, the burner may be clogged.
- Clean burner head: Remove the burner cap and head. Clean all ports with a soft brush and a wooden toothpick. Ensure the port nearest the igniter is clear.
- Dry igniter: If the cooktop was recently cleaned, moisture may be on the igniter. Gently dry the igniter with a soft cloth and allow the area to air dry for several hours.
- Inspect wiring: Lift the cooktop (if serviceable) and inspect the igniter wire from the electrode to the spark module. Reseat any loose connections.
- Module replacement: If none of the burners spark, the spark module may have failed and should be replaced. This is typically a moderate repair requiring access under the cooktop.
