Possible Causes

Grease or food debris in valve stem, Corroded valve internals, Knob melted or deformed from heat, Misaligned knob on valve stem

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn all burners OFF and allow the area to cool. Do not force knobs with excessive pressure.

  • Remove knobs: Pull the knobs straight off the valve stems. Clean the back of the knobs and the area around the stems with a mild degreaser.
  • Inspect stems: Check for melted plastic or debris around the stems. Do not spray lubricant directly into gas valves.
  • Reinstall knobs: Align the flat on the knob with the flat on the stem and push on firmly.

When to call a technician: If valves remain stiff or bind, the gas valves may need to be replaced or serviced by a professional; do not attempt to lubricate internal valve parts yourself.
