Possible Causes
Spilled food or grease on oven surfaces, Foil covering oven bottom or vents, New accessory coatings curing, Failing electrical component overheating
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: If you see smoke from control panel or smell strong electrical burning, turn off power immediately and do not use the oven.
- Clean oven: Once cool, remove racks and clean spills and grease from the oven interior with a non-caustic cleaner. Avoid covering the oven bottom with foil.
- Burn-off cycle: For new ranges or after heavy cleaning, run the oven empty at 400–450°F for 30–60 minutes with good ventilation to burn off residues.
- Monitor source: If odor clearly comes from inside the cavity and diminishes over time, it is likely residue. If it comes from the control area or rear, stop using and call for service.
When to call a technician: Persistent electrical or plastic burning smells from the control or rear area require immediate professional inspection.
