Possible Causes
Open or shorted fridge temperature sensor (NTC), Damaged sensor wiring harness, Poor sensor connection at main PCB, Faulty main control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before accessing internal wiring or control boards.
Diagnostic steps:
- Check loading and airflow: Ensure vents inside the fridge are not blocked by food. While this will not clear E1, it can contribute to temperature issues.
- Locate the sensor: The fridge NTC sensor is usually behind a small plastic cover on the rear or side wall of the fresh food compartment. Remove the cover carefully.
- Inspect the sensor: Check for visible damage, corrosion, or broken wires. Gently tug the connector to ensure it is secure.
- Resistance test (if you have a multimeter): With the fridge unplugged, disconnect the sensor and measure resistance. Typical NTC sensors are around 5–20 kΩ at room temperature. A reading of 0 Ω (short) or infinite (open) indicates a bad sensor.
- Replace the sensor: If faulty, remove the old sensor (it may be clipped or lightly foamed in place) and install the new one in the same position, routing the wires as originally.
- Check harness and PCB: If the sensor tests good, inspect the wiring from the sensor to the main control board for pinched or cut wires. Reseat the connector at the PCB.
Note: If wiring and sensor are good but E1 persists, the main control board may be defective and should be replaced by a professional.
