Possible Causes
Open or shorted refrigerator thermistor, Damaged sensor wiring, Loose connector at control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator before removing interior panels or accessing the control board.
- Locate refrigerator thermistor: It is typically behind a small cover on the refrigerator liner wall or clipped to the evaporator cover.
- Inspect wiring: Check for pinched, cut, or corroded wires leading from the thermistor to the control board.
- Test thermistor: Disconnect the thermistor and measure resistance with a multimeter. At room temperature (~77°F/25°C), it should be around 2.7–3.5 kΩ (check tech sheet for exact spec). Infinite or near-zero resistance indicates failure.
- Replace thermistor: If faulty, remove the old sensor from its clip or housing, route the new sensor along the same path, and reconnect to the harness.
- Clear error: Restore power and verify that the E1 code clears and temperatures stabilize over the next 12–24 hours.
