Possible Causes

Open-circuit NTC sensor, Shorted NTC sensor, Damaged sensor wiring harness, Faulty main control board temperature input

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator from the mains before removing any panels or handling wiring. Do not work on live circuits.

Step-by-step checks:

  • 1. Power reset: Disconnect power for 5–10 minutes, then reconnect. If E1 returns after a few minutes of operation, continue with diagnostics.
  • 2. Locate the fridge NTC sensor: It is usually clipped to the rear wall or ceiling of the fresh-food compartment, often behind a small plastic cover or inside an air channel. Remove shelves as needed and gently unclip the cover.
  • 3. Inspect the sensor and wiring: Look for broken insulation, corrosion at the connector, or a sensor that has come loose from its mounting point. Reseat the connector firmly.
  • 4. Test the sensor (if you have a multimeter): With the fridge unplugged, disconnect the sensor and measure its resistance. At about 20 °C, most NTC sensors read between 5–15 kΩ (check service data if available). A reading of infinite (open) or near 0 Ω (short) indicates a bad sensor.
  • 5. Check continuity of the harness: If the sensor tests OK, check the wiring from the sensor plug back to the main control board for continuity and visible damage (pinched or cut wires).
  • 6. Replace parts as needed: If the sensor is defective, replace it with the exact Amica-compatible refrigerator compartment NTC sensor. If wiring is damaged, repair or replace the harness. If sensor and wiring are good but E1 persists, the main control board may have a failed temperature input circuit and should be replaced by a qualified technician.

When to call a professional: If you are not comfortable testing resistance or accessing the main control board, or if replacing the sensor does not clear E1, contact an authorized Amica service center.
