Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect mains power before removing the control panel or display housing.
How to check:
- 1. Locate the ambient sensor: On many Amica models, this sensor is near the display/control panel or behind a small grille on the front of the cabinet. Remove the control panel trim carefully using a plastic pry tool to avoid damage.
- 2. Inspect the sensor: Look for a small probe or capsule connected by two thin wires. Ensure it is not broken, corroded, or hanging loose. Reseat the connector.
- 3. Test resistance: With the fridge unplugged, disconnect the sensor and measure its resistance at room temperature. Compare to typical NTC values (often 5–15 kΩ at ~20 °C). Replace if open or shorted.
- 4. Check wiring: Examine the harness from the sensor to the main board for kinks, cuts, or loose plugs. Repair any damage and ensure connectors are fully seated.
- 5. Control board evaluation: If the sensor and wiring are good but E3 persists, the control board’s sensor input may be faulty. Replacement of the board is recommended and should be done by a qualified technician.
Tip: Ensure the refrigerator is not installed in extreme temperatures (e.g., unheated garage below manufacturer spec), as this can also cause erratic operation even with a good sensor.
