Possible Causes
Failed PTC start relay, Overload protector tripping, Partially locked compressor, Voltage issues
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the refrigerator before touching the compressor or electrical components. The compressor can be very hot.
Steps:
- 1. Listen for clicking: Repeated clicking every few minutes from the compressor area indicates start device issues.
- 2. Access start device: Remove the rear lower cover and gently pull off the plastic housing on the compressor terminals to expose the PTC relay and overload.
- 3. Inspect and test: Shake the PTC relay; if it rattles or shows burn marks, replace it. Check the overload for continuity; replace if open.
- 4. Compressor health: If new start components do not resolve F9 and the compressor still fails to run, the compressor may be mechanically seized and will require replacement by a licensed refrigeration technician.
