Excessive frost or ice buildup in freezer; door difficult to close

Safety: No electrical work is required; unplug only if you will remove internal panels.

Steps:

• 1. Inspect gasket: Check the entire perimeter of the freezer door gasket for tears, gaps, or hardened sections.
• 2. Clean gasket and mating surfaces: Use warm soapy water to clean the gasket and cabinet frame. Dry thoroughly.
• 3. Check door alignment: Ensure the door is level and not sagging. Adjust hinges if possible or add shim washers where appropriate.
• 4. Paper test: Close the door on a strip of paper at various points. If the paper pulls out easily, the seal is weak there. Replace the gasket if adjustment does not improve sealing.
• 5. Defrost: Manually defrost the freezer to remove existing ice, then monitor for recurrence.
