Possible Causes
Failed compressor, Defective start relay or overload, Faulty main control board, Open thermal protector
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the refrigerator before accessing the compressor area. The compressor and nearby components can be hot and at mains voltage.
Steps:
- 1. Verify symptoms: Check that interior lights work and the display is on, but there is no humming or vibration from the compressor and no cooling after several hours.
- 2. Check temperature settings: Ensure the appliance is not set to an off or demo mode. Set both compartments to normal cooling.
- 3. Listen for compressor attempts: If you hear repeated clicks from the rear, the start device may be failing.
- 4. Inspect start relay and overload: Remove the rear lower cover, then remove the start device from the compressor. Look for burn marks or rattling parts. Replace with the correct Amica start relay/overload if damaged.
- 5. Control board check: If the compressor never receives power (requires live testing by a qualified person) despite correct settings, the main control board may be defective and should be replaced.
- 6. Compressor failure: If new start components do not restore operation and the compressor windings test open/shorted, the compressor is likely failed and must be replaced by a licensed refrigeration technician.
Note: Compressor or sealed system work involves refrigerant and must comply with local regulations; do not attempt it yourself.
