Possible Causes

Faulty magnetic door sensor or reed switch, Misaligned door causing poor magnet contact, Broken door switch wiring, Magnet missing from door frame

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator before removing any trim or panels around the door switches.

Steps:

  • Check door closure: Ensure the door closes fully and the gasket is not obstructed by food packages or shelves.
  • Inspect door switch: Locate the door switch (usually in the frame near the top or side). Press it manually; the interior light should turn off. If not, the switch may be faulty.
  • Magnet check (if magnetic sensor): Some models use a magnet in the door and a reed switch in the frame. Verify the magnet is present and aligned with the sensor.
  • Test switch: With power off, remove the switch and test continuity with a multimeter while pressing it. Replace if it does not open/close correctly.
  • Adjust door: If the door is sagging, adjust the hinges so the switch is fully depressed when closed.

Note: A faulty door sensor can also cause cooling issues because fans and lights may not operate correctly.
