Possible Causes
Ice door not sealing properly, Ice chute heater failure (if equipped), Misaligned ice bucket, Ice door motor or spring failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator before working on the dispenser or ice chute.
Steps:
- Remove ice bin: Take out the ice bucket and clear any clumped or fused ice.
- Inspect ice door: Look up into the chute from the dispenser area. The ice door should close fully when not dispensing. Check for ice preventing closure.
- Defrost chute: Use a warm, damp cloth to melt and wipe away ice buildup. Do not use sharp tools.
- Check door seal and spring: Ensure the rubber seal on the ice door is intact and the spring or motor returns the door to the closed position.
- Replace ice door assembly: If the door is warped, the seal is damaged, or the motor does not operate, replace the ice door/flap assembly or dispenser module as designed for your model.
Note: A leaking ice door can cause frost in the freezer and moisture on the front of the unit.
