Door Alignment or Gasket Interference
Refrigerator door not closing properly or popping open after being shut
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Unit not level, Door hinges loose or bent, Overloaded door bins, Gasket twisted or out of track
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Have someone assist when adjusting doors to prevent tipping.
Steps:
- Level cabinet: Adjust front leveling legs so the refrigerator is slightly tilted back.
- Inspect hinges: Tighten hinge screws at the top and bottom of the door. Replace bent hinges if the door sags.
- Reduce door load: Remove heavy items from door bins that may pull the door out of alignment.
- Reseat gasket: If the gasket is twisted, warm it with a hair dryer on low and gently reshape it to sit flat against the cabinet.
Tip: After adjustments, close the door firmly and check that it stays closed without popping back.
