Condenser Loop Overheating or Poor Ventilation
Refrigerator exterior side walls or door edges feel very hot to the touch
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Dirty condenser coils, Blocked ventilation around cabinet, Condenser fan failure, High ambient temperature
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator before cleaning coils or accessing the rear compartment.
Steps:
- Clean condenser: Use a brush and vacuum to remove dust from coils at the back or underneath.
- Check fan operation: Ensure the condenser fan runs when the compressor is on. Replace the fan motor if it does not run and wiring is intact.
- Improve airflow: Move the refrigerator slightly away from the wall and ensure top and sides have the recommended clearance.
- Monitor: After cleaning and improving ventilation, the exterior should still be warm but not excessively hot. If it remains very hot, have a technician check for sealed system issues.
Note: Some warmth on door edges is normal; they often contain anti-condensation heaters or condenser loops.
