Possible Causes
Frozen water line in door, Clogged water filter, Faulty dispenser switch, Failed secondary water valve
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Shut off the water supply and unplug the refrigerator before servicing water components.
Steps:
- Check filter: Replace the water filter if it is older than recommended or if flow has gradually decreased.
- Test dispenser switch: Press the dispenser lever and listen for a click and a humming sound from the valve. If silent, the switch or control may be faulty.
- Thaw door line: If the refrigerator is very cold or the door insulation is compromised, the line in the door can freeze. Open the door and gently warm the dispenser area with a hair dryer on low, moving constantly and not overheating plastic.
- Inspect valve: The water inlet valve may have separate solenoids for ice and water. If the water solenoid is open-circuit or stuck, replace the valve assembly.
Warning: Always check for leaks after working on water lines.
