Possible Causes
Failed dispenser switch, Frozen water line in door, Faulty water inlet valve coil, Control board dispenser relay failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the refrigerator and shut off the water supply before disconnecting any water lines.
- 1. Check water supply: Confirm the household shutoff valve is open and the supply line is not kinked.
- 2. Test dispenser switch: Remove the dispenser front panel (carefully pry off). Use a multimeter to test the switch for continuity when pressed.
- 3. Inspect for frozen lines: If the refrigerator is very cold, the water line in the door can freeze. Open the door and gently warm the dispenser area with a hair dryer on low, moving constantly.
- 4. Test inlet valve coil: At the rear of the unit, locate the water inlet valve. With power off, disconnect the dispenser coil and measure resistance; an open coil indicates a bad valve.
- 5. Replace faulty parts: Install a new dispenser switch or water inlet valve as needed. Use new compression fittings or O-rings to prevent leaks.
- 6. Restore water and power: Turn water back on, check for leaks, then plug in and test the dispenser.
