Possible Causes

Failed compressor start relay, Open overload protector, Loose compressor wiring, Locked or high-amperage compressor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the refrigerator. The compressor area contains high voltage components. Do not bypass safety devices.

  • 1. Access compressor compartment: Remove the rear lower access panel to expose the compressor and start components.
  • 2. Inspect start relay and overload: Remove the plastic cover on the compressor terminals. Check for burnt smell, melted plastic, or rattling pieces inside the relay.
  • 3. Test relay and overload: Disconnect them from the compressor. Use a multimeter to check continuity according to the part's specifications. An open overload or a relay that shows no continuity where expected is faulty.
  • 4. Check compressor windings: With all power off and components removed, measure resistance between the three compressor pins. You should see three low resistance readings and no continuity to ground. A short to ground or open winding indicates a failed compressor.
  • 5. Replace start components: If the compressor windings test good, install a new compressor start relay and overload kit designed for your Avanti model.
  • 6. Reassemble and test: Refit the cover, restore power, and listen for the compressor starting smoothly. If E6 persists and the compressor hums then clicks off, the compressor itself may be mechanically locked and require professional replacement.
