Possible Causes
Clogged defrost drain, Cracked or misaligned drain pan, Frozen drain tube, Spill inside refrigerator overflowing
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the refrigerator and mop up any standing water to prevent slipping.
- 1. Identify leak source: Check inside the freezer for ice buildup on the bottom or water under drawers. Also inspect under the unit for a full or misaligned drain pan.
- 2. Clear defrost drain: Remove the freezer rear panel to access the drain trough. If it is iced over, pour warm (not boiling) water into the drain hole using a turkey baster until water flows freely to the pan below.
- 3. Clean drain tube: From the back of the unit, locate the drain tube leading to the pan. Remove and flush it with warm water to clear debris or mold.
- 4. Inspect drain pan: Ensure the pan is not cracked and is seated correctly under the drain tube. Replace the drain pan if damaged.
- 5. Check for interior spills: Clean up any spilled liquids inside the refrigerator that may be running out the door.
