Possible Causes
Locked dispenser controls, Frozen water line in door, Faulty dispenser switch, Defective water inlet valve
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off water supply and unplug the fridge before accessing internal dispenser components.
- Check control lock: Many models have a child lock for the dispenser. Verify that the lock is not active according to the user manual.
- Test with glass: Press the dispenser lever with a glass. Listen for a humming sound from the water valve. If you hear humming but no water, the line may be frozen or blocked.
- Inspect for frozen line: If the fridge is very cold or the door area feels unusually cold, the water line in the door may be frozen. Increase fridge temperature slightly and leave the door closed for several hours to thaw.
- Check filter: A clogged water filter can block flow. Replace the filter if it is older than the recommended interval or if flow has gradually decreased.
- Valve and switch testing: If there is no sound from the valve when dispensing, the dispenser switch or valve coil may be faulty. These require electrical testing and are best replaced by a technician if defective.
