Excessive frost or ice buildup in the freezer compartment, door difficult to close

Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator before defrosting heavy ice buildup.

• Inspect door seal: Check the gasket all around for tears, gaps, or hardened sections. Close the door on a sheet of paper; it should hold firmly when pulled.
• Remove obstructions: Ensure food packages are not protruding and preventing full door closure.
• Manual defrost: If ice is thick, empty the freezer, unplug the unit, and allow it to defrost completely. Use towels to absorb water. Do not use knives or sharp tools to remove ice.
• Adjust temperature: Set the freezer to -18 °C. Colder settings can increase frost formation.
• Replace gasket if needed: If the gasket is damaged or not sealing, replace it with a matching Bauknecht gasket.
