Possible Causes
Loose compressor mounting, Tubing touching cabinet, Faulty fan motor bearings, Items vibrating against interior walls
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the fridge before touching moving parts or metal tubing.
- Isolate the source: Listen carefully to determine if the noise comes from inside, the back, or the bottom of the unit.
- Check interior items: Remove or reposition bottles and containers that may be touching each other or the walls, causing rattling.
- Level the appliance: Use a spirit level and adjust the front feet so the fridge is stable and does not rock.
- Inspect rear components: Remove the rear panel and gently move refrigerant tubes away from each other and from the cabinet if they are touching and vibrating. Do not bend sharply.
- Check fans: Spin condenser and evaporator fans by hand (with power off). If they grind or wobble, replace the fan motor.
- Compressor knocks: If the compressor itself is knocking loudly, internal damage may be present and a technician should evaluate it.
