Possible Causes
Failed evaporator NTC sensor,Sensor wiring harness damaged,Connector corrosion due to moisture,Main PCB sensor circuit fault
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before accessing the evaporator area.
Step-by-step:
- Access evaporator: Remove freezer drawers and inner rear panel to expose the evaporator coil.
- Locate sensor: The evaporator sensor is usually clipped to the evaporator tubing or mounted close to it in a plastic holder.
- Inspect for ice and damage: Check if the sensor is buried in ice or has cracked insulation. Look for broken or stretched wires.
- Defrost: If there is heavy frost, fully defrost the unit. This can temporarily restore operation if the sensor was simply iced over.
- Check connection: Follow the sensor cable to its connector and ensure it is tight and clean.
- Replace sensor: If E3 returns after defrost or the sensor looks damaged, replace it with the correct evaporator NTC sensor. Clip it firmly back in the original position for accurate readings.
Note: If a new sensor does not resolve E3, the control board may misread the sensor and should be tested by a professional.
