Possible Causes
Door not closing fully or gasket damaged,Door frequently opened or left ajar,Defrost heater or thermostat failure,Blocked defrost drain causing ice accumulation
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator before defrosting.
Step-by-step:
- Check door seal and alignment: Ensure the door closes evenly and the gasket contacts the cabinet all around. Adjust leveling feet if the door swings open by itself.
- Remove heavy frost: Empty the freezer and leave the door open to allow ice to melt. Place towels to catch water. You can use bowls of hot water to speed up melting, but do not use sharp tools.
- Inspect gasket: Look for tears or hardened sections. Replace if damaged.
- Monitor recurrence: If heavy frost returns within a week or two, the automatic defrost system may be failing and should be checked (heater, thermostat, sensor).
Note: A thin, even layer of frost on the evaporator is normal; thick, snowy buildup is not.
