Possible Causes
Clogged defrost drain,Cracked or misaligned drain tube,Overfilled or mispositioned drain pan,Leaking water inlet hose or valve
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator and turn off the water supply if you suspect a water line leak.
Step-by-step:
- Identify source: Pull the fridge forward and inspect underneath and behind for water trails.
- Check defrost drain: Inside the freezer, remove drawers and inspect the rear panel bottom area for ice buildup. A blocked drain often forms a sheet of ice.
- Clear drain: After unplugging, melt ice with warm (not boiling) water using a turkey baster or squeeze bottle. Flush warm water down the drain hole until it flows freely into the rear drain pan.
- Inspect rear drain tube: At the back, locate the drain tube leading to the pan. Ensure it is not kinked or dislodged.
- Check water connections: If the unit has a water dispenser/ice maker, inspect the supply hose and valve for drips. Tighten or replace as needed.
Warning: Do not use sharp tools to chip ice; you can puncture internal components.
