Possible Causes
Dirty condenser coils,Door gasket leaking cold air,Refrigerator installed in very hot environment,Temperature set too low
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit before cleaning the rear components.
Step-by-step:
- Check temperature settings: Set fridge to about 4°C and freezer to about -18°C. Extremely low settings cause long run times.
- Clean condenser: Vacuum and brush the condenser coils at the back or underneath the unit.
- Inspect door seals: Look for gaps or cracks in the gaskets. Close a strip of paper in the door at several points; if it pulls out easily, the seal may need adjustment or replacement.
- Check installation: Ensure adequate ventilation around the fridge and that it is not placed next to ovens or radiators.
- Defrost if frosted: Heavy frost in the freezer can reduce efficiency. Manually defrost if needed.
Note: Some modern fridges run more frequently by design, but if temperatures are normal and energy use is acceptable, this may be normal operation.
