Possible Causes
Failed ambient NTC sensor, Sensor dislodged from correct location, Damaged wiring harness, Faulty main control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before removing covers or touching wiring.
Steps to address E5:
- 1. Confirm installation environment: Ensure the fridge is not installed in extreme temperatures (e.g., unheated garage below 10°C or very hot areas above 38°C), as this can confuse ambient sensing.
- 2. Locate the ambient sensor: On many Belling models, this is behind a small grille on the front frame or near the control housing, sometimes behind the top hinge cover.
- 3. Inspect sensor and wiring: Check that the sensor is intact and not hanging loose. Look for damaged insulation or loose connectors. Reseat the plug at the sensor and PCB.
- 4. Test the sensor: With the appliance unplugged, disconnect the sensor and measure resistance. Compare to typical NTC values at room temperature (often 5–20 kΩ). Open or short readings indicate failure.
- 5. Replace if faulty: Fit a new Belling-compatible ambient sensor, securing it in the same location so it measures room air correctly.
- 6. If E5 persists: A persistent E5 with a known-good sensor suggests a control board fault. Seek professional service.
