Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator before any disassembly.
Locate the freezer sensor:
- Open the freezer and remove baskets or shelves as needed.
- Look for a small plastic cover on the rear or side wall; this usually houses the sensor.
- Remove the cover and inspect the sensor and wiring for ice buildup, damage, or discoloration.
Defrost and inspect:
- If the sensor is encased in ice, leave the unit unplugged with doors open for several hours or use a hair dryer on low setting at a safe distance to melt ice (do not overheat plastic).
- After defrosting, reseat the sensor connector and check that the wire is not cut or crushed.
Test and replace:
- If you can measure resistance, compare the sensor reading to the service chart. Replace the sensor if readings are out of range.
- Route the new sensor along the original path and secure it away from moving parts or sharp edges.
When to seek service: If E2 returns immediately after sensor replacement, the control board may be faulty and should be evaluated by a technician.
