How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety warning: Disconnect the appliance from power before removing panels or handling wiring.

Steps to troubleshoot E1:

  • 1. Confirm error: Note if E1 appears immediately at power-on or only after some minutes of operation. Persistent immediate errors usually indicate a hard sensor fault.
  • 2. Access the freezer sensor: Remove freezer drawers/shelves. Look for a small plastic cover on the rear or side wall. Gently remove the cover to expose the sensor capsule and wiring.
  • 3. Visual inspection: Check for ice buildup around the sensor, damaged insulation, or cut wires. If the sensor is encased in ice, defrost the area fully with the unit unplugged (do not chip ice with sharp tools).
  • 4. Electrical test (if equipped): With the unit unplugged, disconnect the sensor and measure resistance. Compare to typical NTC values (often 5–20 kΩ at room temperature; resistance will be higher when cold). Infinite or near-zero readings indicate a failed sensor.
  • 5. Replace the sensor: If faulty, install a new freezer NTC sensor of the correct specification. Route the harness along the original path and secure it to avoid contact with the evaporator fan or sharp metal edges.
  • 6. Inspect the control board: If a new sensor does not clear E1, the main PCB may not be reading the sensor correctly. Check for burnt spots or water damage. Board replacement is usually the remedy.

Call a professional: If you are unsure about resistance testing or board replacement, have a certified technician perform the diagnosis and repair.
