Possible Causes
Failed ice maker motor,Stuck ice cubes jamming the mechanism,Faulty ice maker position switch or sensor,Loose wiring between ice maker and control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the refrigerator before removing the ice maker assembly.
Steps to troubleshoot E12:
- 1. Inspect the ice bin: Remove the bin and check for large clumps of ice or jammed cubes. Break up clumps and clear jams.
- 2. Check the ice maker: Look for broken plastic parts, stripped gears, or signs of overheating on the motor housing.
- 3. Reset the ice maker: Some models have a reset button or manual test switch. With power on, press according to the user manual to initiate a test cycle. If it does not move, the motor may be faulty.
- 4. Wiring inspection: With power disconnected, check the harness from the ice maker to the cabinet and control board. Ensure connectors are secure and wires are not pinched.
- 5. Replace ice maker assembly: If the motor or internal switches are defective, replace the entire ice maker module. This is often more reliable than attempting component-level repair.
- 6. Control board: If a new ice maker still does not operate and E12 remains, the main board may not be sending power or signals correctly and may need replacement.
Note: Allow 24 hours after repair for normal ice production to resume.
