Possible Causes
Failed ice compartment NTC sensor,Loose or corroded sensor connector,Wire harness damage in door or cabinet,Defective control board sensor channel
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before working inside the ice compartment or door.
Steps to resolve E7:
- 1. Access the ice compartment: Remove the ice bin and any covers to locate the sensor, usually near the ice maker or on the compartment wall.
- 2. Inspect sensor and wiring: Look for broken insulation, ice buildup around the sensor, or loose connectors. Defrost any ice gently with warm air, not sharp tools.
- 3. Test the sensor: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the sensor and measure resistance. Compare to expected NTC values. Replace if open, shorted, or clearly out of range.
- 4. Check harness through the door (if applicable): On models with ice in the door, flexing can break wires in the hinge area. Inspect and test continuity if you suspect a break.
- 5. Control board check: If the sensor and wiring are good, the main board may not be reading the sensor correctly. Board replacement is typically required and should be done by a professional.
Note: A faulty ice compartment sensor can lead to soft ice, clumping, or no ice production.
