Refrigerator shows E8 and the fan noise may be abnormal or airflow seems weak

Safety: Unplug the refrigerator before removing internal panels or touching the fan assembly.

Steps to troubleshoot E8:

• 1. Listen for fan operation: After closing the door switch (manually press it), you should hear the evaporator fan running when the compressor is on. No sound or intermittent noise suggests a problem.
• 2. Access the fan: Remove freezer drawers and the rear inner panel to expose the evaporator and fan housing.
• 3. Check for ice or debris: Look for ice buildup around the fan blades or housing. Defrost the area completely if iced over. Ensure nothing is obstructing the blades.
• 4. Inspect wiring: Confirm the fan connector is firmly seated and wires are intact.
• 5. Test the fan motor: With the unit unplugged, measure resistance across the fan motor terminals. An open circuit indicates a failed motor. On DC fans, also check for signs of burnt electronics.
• 6. Replace the fan motor: If faulty, install a new evaporator fan motor assembly. Reassemble the panel carefully to avoid air leaks.
• 7. Control board: If the fan tests good but never receives power, the control board may be defective and require replacement.

Warning: Do not run the refrigerator for long periods with a non-functioning evaporator fan, as it can damage the compressor and cause poor cooling.
