Possible Causes
Clogged defrost drain hole with ice or debris,Drain tube blocked by food particles or algae,Drain tube misaligned or disconnected,Cracked drain pan
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the refrigerator before removing panels or working near electrical components. Water and electricity are a dangerous combination.
Steps to clear leaks:
- 1. Identify leak source: Check if water appears at the front center (often from defrost drain) or from the rear (drain pan or supply line).
- 2. Access freezer drain: Remove freezer drawers and rear panel to expose the evaporator and drain trough.
- 3. Clear ice and debris: Use warm (not boiling) water in a turkey baster or squeeze bottle to flush the drain hole until water flows freely to the drain pan below.
- 4. Clean drain tube: From the rear, locate the drain tube leading to the pan. Remove and flush it with warm water and mild detergent to remove sludge.
- 5. Check drain pan: Inspect the pan for cracks or misalignment. Replace if damaged.
- 6. Reassemble and monitor: Refit panels and observe for leaks over the next few days.
Note: Do not use sharp objects to clear the drain, as you can puncture the liner or tubing.
