Freezer not reaching set temperature, E02 displayed on control panel
Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before accessing internal panels or wiring.
Diagnostic steps:
- Check for obvious airflow issues: Ensure freezer vents are not blocked by food. Excess frost buildup on the back panel may indicate a defrost problem rather than a sensor fault.
- Power reset: Unplug the unit for 5–10 minutes and plug back in. If E02 reappears, proceed with sensor checks.
- Access the freezer sensor: Remove shelves and the rear interior panel of the freezer (usually held by screws). The sensor is typically clipped to the evaporator or mounted on the rear wall in a small plastic housing.
- Inspect connections: Check the sensor plug and wiring for corrosion, loose fit, or damage. Reseat the connector firmly.
- Basic sensor test: If you have a multimeter, disconnect the sensor and measure resistance at room temperature. Bosch NTC sensors are typically in the 5–15 kΩ range at ~25°C (exact value varies by model). An open circuit or 0 Ω indicates a bad sensor.
- Replace if faulty: If resistance is out of range or intermittent when you gently wiggle the wires, replace the sensor with the correct Bosch part number.
Note: If a new sensor does not clear E02, the main control board may not be reading the sensor correctly and may require professional diagnosis and replacement.
