Possible Causes
Loose compressor mounting bolts, Copper lines contacting cabinet, Loose internal components in compressor (wear), Poor leveling
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator before working at the rear.
Steps:
- Level and stabilize: Adjust leveling feet so the unit is solid and does not rock when doors are opened.
- Check compressor mounts: Remove rear panel and inspect the compressor mounting bolts and rubber grommets. Tighten bolts gently if loose; do not overtighten.
- Secure tubing: Look for copper lines touching each other or the cabinet. Gently bend or pad them with foam sleeves to prevent contact.
Note: If knocking persists and seems to come from inside the compressor shell, it may be internal wear. The compressor may eventually need replacement by a professional.
