Bosch
Condenser Fan or Compressor Noise
Refrigerator making loud buzzing or humming noise from back
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Worn condenser fan motor, Fan blade hitting debris or wiring, Vibrating compressor mounting, Unit not leveled
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator before touching any moving parts or removing panels.
Steps:
- Level the unit: Use a level to adjust front feet so the fridge is stable and slightly tilted back. This can reduce vibration.
- Access rear panel: Remove the lower rear cover and inspect the condenser fan. Clear any dust, plastic, or wiring contacting the blades.
- Check fan motor: Spin the fan by hand; if rough or noisy, replace the motor.
- Inspect compressor mounts: Ensure rubber grommets are intact and that copper lines are not touching the cabinet, which can cause rattling. Gently adjust lines if needed.
Note: Some compressor hum is normal. If noise is extremely loud or accompanied by clicking, have a technician evaluate the compressor.
