Possible Causes

Open or shorted refrigerator thermistor, Damaged thermistor wiring, Poor thermistor connector contact

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power before accessing internal components.

Step 1 – Locate the refrigerator thermistor:

  • Open the fresh food compartment.
  • Look for a small plastic cover or grill on the back or side wall; the thermistor is usually behind it.
  • Remove the cover using a small screwdriver.

Step 2 – Visual inspection:

  • Check if the sensor is covered in ice or condensation; defrost any ice with a hair dryer on low, keeping it at least 20 cm away.
  • Inspect the wiring for cuts, pinches, or discoloration.

Step 3 – Electrical test:

  • Unplug the sensor connector.
  • Use a multimeter set to kΩ to measure resistance across the sensor leads.
  • At about 25°C, most NTC thermistors should read between 5–20 kΩ (consult your model’s service data if available).
  • If the reading is infinite (open) or near 0 Ω (short), the sensor is faulty.

Step 4 – Replace the thermistor:

  • Order a replacement refrigerator compartment thermistor compatible with your Brandt model.
  • Disconnect the old sensor and clip or slide it out of its holder.
  • Install the new sensor in the same position, ensuring good contact with the liner if required.
  • Reconnect the wiring and reinstall the cover.
  • Restore power and verify that the E1 code clears after a few minutes.
