Possible Causes
Failed defrost control component on PCB, Shorted defrost heater drawing excessive current, Wiring short in defrost circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator. The defrost circuit is at mains voltage.
Step 1 – Inspect defrost heater and wiring:
- Access the evaporator and defrost heater as described for E4.
- Look for melted insulation or signs of arcing.
Step 2 – Measure heater resistance:
- Disconnect the heater and check resistance; compare to specifications.
- A very low resistance (near short) may indicate a partially shorted heater.
Step 3 – Replace suspect components:
- If the heater or wiring is damaged, replace or repair before addressing the control board.
- If the heater circuit is normal but E15 persists, the defrost control element on the main PCB is likely faulty.
- Replace the main control board following standard safety and labeling procedures.
