Possible Causes
Failed freezer thermistor, Broken or shorted sensor wiring, Connector corrosion at control board or sensor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the appliance before removing panels or handling wiring.
Step 1 – Access the freezer thermistor:
- Empty the upper shelves of the freezer to gain access to the rear or side wall.
- Locate a small plastic cover or grill; remove it to expose the sensor.
Step 2 – Inspect for ice and damage:
- Check if the sensor is encased in ice; if so, allow the unit to defrost (power off, doors open) for several hours or use a hair dryer on low, keeping it moving to avoid melting plastic.
- Look for damaged insulation or pulled wires.
Step 3 – Test the thermistor:
- Disconnect the sensor from its connector.
- Measure resistance with a multimeter at freezer temperature (e.g., around -18°C the resistance will be significantly higher than at room temperature).
- An open circuit or 0 Ω indicates a defective sensor.
Step 4 – Replace the sensor:
- Purchase a Brandt‑compatible freezer thermistor.
- Remove the old sensor from its clip or bracket.
- Install the new sensor in the same location and route the wiring as originally installed.
- Reconnect the plug, restore power, and monitor if E2 disappears after a short run period.
