Possible Causes
Defective door switch, Misaligned door magnet (for reed or Hall sensors), Broken door switch wiring, Control board door input failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before removing switch assemblies or panels.
Step 1 – Check door operation:
- Open and close the door while observing the interior light and fan (fan often stops when door is open).
- If the light stays on or off regardless of door position, suspect the door switch.
Step 2 – Inspect the door switch:
- Locate the switch on the cabinet frame (usually near the top or side).
- Gently pry it out with a flat screwdriver, taking care not to damage the liner.
- Check for broken plastic, stuck plunger, or corrosion on terminals.
Step 3 – Test the switch:
- Disconnect the switch wiring.
- Use a multimeter in continuity mode; press and release the switch while measuring.
- You should see continuity change as the switch is pressed. If not, replace the switch.
Step 4 – Check magnetic sensors (if applicable):
- Some models use a magnet in the door and a reed/Hall sensor in the frame.
- Verify the magnet is present and not displaced.
- If the sensor is loose or damaged, it must be replaced.
Step 5 – Reinstall and test:
- Install the new or tested‑good switch/sensor and reconnect wiring.
- Restore power and confirm that the E5 code clears and that the light and fan respond correctly to door position.
