Possible Causes
Failed compressor start relay or PTC, Faulty compressor inverter board (on variable-speed models), Locked compressor, Low line voltage
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the refrigerator before touching the compressor or start components. The compressor can be very hot.
- 1. Verify voltage: Ensure the outlet provides stable 120V AC. Low voltage can cause repeated start attempts.
- 2. Inspect start device/inverter: Remove the cover on the side of the compressor to access the start relay or inverter module. Look for burn marks or melted plastic.
- 3. Replace start device/inverter: If visibly damaged or if testing indicates failure, replace with the correct Café/GE part.
- 4. If compressor still will not start: The compressor may be locked or the sealed system compromised. This requires a licensed refrigeration technician.
