Possible Causes

Failed evaporator fan motor, Ice obstruction around fan blades, Broken fan wiring harness, Faulty main control PCB fan driver

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the refrigerator before accessing internal fan assemblies.

Procedure:

  • 1. Identify which fan is affected: CDA frost-free models may have a freezer evaporator fan and sometimes a separate fridge circulation fan. Listen for fan noise when doors are closed (use door switch override if needed).
  • 2. Access the fan: Remove the internal rear panel in the affected compartment. The fan is mounted on or near the evaporator cover.
  • 3. Check for ice buildup: If the fan blades are encased in ice, defrost the area completely. Ice blockage can trigger E7. Investigate defrost system if ice returns quickly.
  • 4. Inspect the fan motor: Spin the blades by hand; they should rotate freely. Check for burnt smell or discoloration on the motor body and connector.
  • 5. Test and replace: If the fan does not run when powered (after reassembly and restoring power) and E7 persists, replace the CDA evaporator fan motor with a compatible unit. Transfer the fan blade to the new motor if required.
  • 6. Wiring and PCB: If a new fan does not run, check the harness back to the PCB. A failed PCB fan driver will need professional replacement.

Tip: Always ensure all panels and ducts are refitted correctly; missing covers can disrupt airflow and cause further errors.
