Possible Causes

Clogged defrost drain hole under evaporator, Frozen drain tube in rear of cabinet, Cracked or misaligned drain pan above compressor, Excessive humidity causing over-defrost water

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the refrigerator before removing panels or working near the compressor.

  • Locate defrost drain: Remove the freezer rear interior panel to access the evaporator. The drain hole is usually at the bottom center.
  • Clear blockage: Use warm water in a turkey baster or squeeze bottle to flush the drain hole until water flows freely into the drain pan.
  • Check rear drain tube: From the back of the fridge, locate the rubber drain tube leading to the pan. Remove and clean it if clogged with debris or mold.
  • Inspect drain pan: Ensure the plastic pan above the compressor is not cracked and is properly seated.
  • Reassemble and monitor: After clearing, reassemble panels and monitor for further leaks over the next few days.
