Possible Causes

Open or shorted fresh food thermistor, Damaged thermistor wiring harness, Poor thermistor connection at control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect power to the refrigerator before accessing internal components.

Steps to diagnose and correct:

  • Locate the thermistor: In many Crosley refrigerators, the fresh food thermistor is clipped to the liner wall behind a small plastic cover or inside an air tower on the back wall of the refrigerator compartment.
  • Inspect the sensor: Remove the cover and visually inspect the thermistor and its wires for cuts, pinches, or corrosion at the connector.
  • Check connections: Ensure the thermistor plug is fully seated in its connector. If accessible, trace the harness back toward the top or rear where it connects to the main control board and reseat that connector as well.
  • Basic resistance check (optional): With the refrigerator unplugged, disconnect the thermistor and measure its resistance using a multimeter. At room temperature (~77°F / 25°C), most Crosley NTC thermistors read around 5k–10k ohms. A reading of 0 ohms (short) or infinite (open) indicates a bad sensor.
  • Replace if faulty: If the thermistor is damaged or readings are out of range, replace it with a Crosley-compatible fresh food thermistor. Clip the new sensor in the same location and route the wires as originally installed.
  • Restore power and test: Plug the refrigerator back in and allow several hours for temperatures to stabilize. Confirm that the E1 code does not return.
