Possible Causes

Failed electronic defrost control on main board, Stuck mechanical defrost timer (on older Crosley models), Loose defrost control wiring

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect power before accessing the control housing or rear panel.

Steps:

  • Identify defrost control type: Many newer Crosley refrigerators use an electronic defrost function built into the main control board. Older models may have a separate mechanical defrost timer located in the control housing inside the fresh food compartment or behind the kick plate.
  • For mechanical timers: Locate the timer and slowly turn the advance shaft with a flat screwdriver until you hear a click. This should force the unit into or out of defrost. If the timer stalls or never advances on its own, replace it.
  • For electronic control: Inspect the main control board for burnt components or damaged traces. Reseat all connectors.
  • Check wiring: Verify that the defrost heater and thermostat wiring is intact and properly connected to the control.
  • Replace control if needed: If the heater and thermostat test good but the unit never enters defrost (or stays in defrost too long), replace the main control board or defrost control module with a Crosley-compatible part.
