Possible Causes
Failed freezer thermistor, loose thermistor connector, damaged wiring harness to control board, defective main control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before accessing internal components.
Steps to diagnose E2:
- Reset attempt: Unplug the refrigerator for 5–10 minutes, then reconnect. If E2 reappears, proceed with checks.
- Locate the freezer thermistor: Typically mounted on the freezer rear wall, clipped to the evaporator cover, or behind a small plastic cover near the evaporator coils.
- Visual inspection: Look for ice buildup around the sensor, broken insulation, or disconnected plugs. Carefully remove any heavy frost with a hair dryer on low (do not overheat plastic parts).
- Test the thermistor: Remove the thermistor from the circuit and measure resistance at room temperature. Compare to expected NTC values (commonly 5–10 kΩ at 25°C). If reading is open, shorted, or far off spec, replace it.
- Check wiring: Trace the thermistor wires to the main control board. Look for pinched, cut, or corroded wires. Repair or replace as needed.
- Replace parts as needed: Install a new OEM Danby freezer thermistor if faulty. If the thermistor and wiring are good but E2 persists, the main control board is likely at fault and may need replacement by a technician.
