Possible Causes
Failed DC evaporator fan motor, Ice obstruction around fan blades, Broken fan wiring harness, Faulty fan driver circuit on main PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before accessing the fan. Beware of sharp metal edges.
Steps:
- 1. Listen for fan operation: With the door switch held closed (before unplugging), the fan should run when the compressor is on. If silent or intermittent, proceed.
- 2. Access the fan: Remove shelves/drawers and the rear interior panel of the affected compartment. Defrost any ice blocking the panel.
- 3. Inspect the fan: Check if ice or debris is blocking the blades. Spin the fan by hand; it should rotate freely without grinding.
- 4. Test the motor: Disconnect the fan connector and measure resistance across the motor terminals (for DC fans, you may see a few hundred ohms). An open circuit indicates a failed motor.
- 5. Check wiring: Inspect the harness from the fan to the PCB for cuts or loose plugs. Repair as needed.
- 6. Replace the fan motor: Unscrew or unclip the fan assembly, transfer the fan blade if separate, and install the new motor. Ensure the blade is correctly oriented and not rubbing on the shroud.
- 7. If motor and wiring are good: The main PCB fan driver may be defective. This requires PCB replacement and is best handled by a technician.
